Fear of Afterlife Among the Companions (RA) and the Friends of Allah (RA)

Ubqari Magazine - May 2014

Abu Laheeb Shaazli

Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said that on the day of judgement such people would be brought who would have pious deeds with then that are the size of Tahaama mountain. So much so that when they would be brought, Allah almighty would blow their deeds as dust and then put them in hell.

Offer of Emotions of Self Sacrifice to Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (RA) that I was present with hazrat Miqdaar (RA) on such an occasion on which being his companion was dearer to me than everything of the world. You (RA) were a very brave person. When Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and your (PBUH) cheeks became red, under this situation hazrat Miqdaar (RA) came to you and said. ”Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), please be happy.” By Allah, we shall not say to you like what bani-Israel said to Hazrat Musa (AS), “You and you Lord should go and fight, we are sitting here.” (Al-Maaida, 24). By Allah, who has given you the Truth, we shall be in front of you (PBUH) and behind (PBUH), and we shall fight from your left and right. May Allah give you victory.”

Love With Allah Almighty: Hazrat Umar bin Al-Khattaab (RA) said, if I make Saalim maula Abi Huzaifa (RA) as the caliph and my Lord asked me that who persuaded you on doing that, I would say, ”O my Lord! I have heard your messenger (PBUH) saying, that surely he has cordial love for Allah Almighty.”

Fear of Afterlife: It is quoted on authority of Hazrat Tahaama (RA) that Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said that on the day of judgement such people would be brought who would have pious deeds with them that are the size of Tahaama mountain. So much so that when they would be brought, Allah almighty would blow their deeds as dust and then put them in hell. Then I said, ”O apostle of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed upon you, you (PBUH) should tell us about their signs, so that we may recognize them. Thus, by Allah, who has given you the truth, I fear to be one amongst them. Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Saalim! Those people would fast and would offer prayers, but whenever anything that is forbidden would be brought in front of them, they would run to snatch it, then Allah Almighty would destroy their deeds. Hazrat Maalik bin Deenaar (RA) says that, by Allah this would happen due to hypocrisy. Upon this Mualla bin Zayyaad (RA) held his beard and said, o Abu Yahya (RA), by Allah, you said the truth. (Huliyya-tul-auliya)

Sacrifice and Hardships of Companions (RA): It is quoted by hazrat Aamir bin Rabeeya (RA), that when Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to send us with any army, we never used to have any luggage. Except for dry dates, we never had anything. Its manager used to distribute among us one handful, so much so that the situation used to come to one dry date. Abdullah bin Aamir (RA) says that I said that, what purpose would one dry date serve? He said, “Son please do not say like this.” After this what happened was that we even lost that dry date and we became needy of that too.

Virtue of Reciting Durood Shareef: Hazrat Aamir bin Rabeea (RA) says that I heard Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) saying during a sermon that a person who send salutations (durood) upon me, till the time he keeps on sending durood upon me, the angels keep on praying for his forgiveness. Thus, now it depends upon a person whether he sends salutations plenty or rarely. (hulliya-tul-auliya)

An Important Condition for Going to the Heaven: It is quoted by hazrat Saubaan (RA) that Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, that a person who would give me guarantee of one thing, I give guarantee for his going to heaven. I said that I give that guarantee. Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, ”Never ask anyone (for favors).” Sometimes someone’s whip would fall off the ground and he used to be riding a camel, he would not ask anyone to lift the whip, he would lift it himself. It is quoted by hazrat Sobaan (RA) that Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said that a person who gives me the guarantee of this thing that he would never ask anyone for favors, I would give him the guarantee of paradise. Hazrat Sobaan (RA) said that he would give him the guarantee. Thus, hazrat sobaan (RA) never asked anyone of anything.

Who is the Best Person: It is quoted by Hazrat Abdullah bin Umro (RA) that Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was asked which person is the best? He said, ”That believer who is makhmoom-al-qalb and truthful.” It was asked, ”What is makhmoom-al-qalb?” Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, ”that person who would meet Allah in a state in which he is pure and clean. He has no sins, neither mutiny, nor conceit nor jealousy.” The companions (RA) asked, ”O apostle of Allah, who would be such a person?” It was said, ”The one who considers this world to be bad and loves the afterlife.” The companions (RA) said that there is none amongst us with this kind of a trait except the friend of Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) hazrat Raafai (RA). The companions (RA) said, ”Who would be the one who would attain this virtue.” Hazrat Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, ”That believer who would practice good behavior and conduct.”

Knowledge Does Not Reduce: Hazrat Abul Khidra (RA) says that a person from Bani-Abas became a companion of Hazrat Salman Farsi (RA) in a journey. He drank a fist of water from river Dajla and hazrat Salman Farsi (RA) said to him count it and then drink. He said that his thirst had quenched. He (RA) said, ”What do you think that what you have drank has reduced the level of water in it?” He said, ”The fist I have drank does not reduce it.” He said, ”Similarly knowledge does not reduce.”
